Cancer patient Lindsey is lining up a 10k for Maggie’s Oldham

Date published: 25 April 2024

Maggie’s Oldham is looking for runners of all abilities to take part in the Great Manchester Run this May. The local cancer charity has places available for both the 10k and Half Marathon events, taking place on Sunday 26 May in Manchester city centre.

The Great Manchester Run is the city’s original and best-loved running event. In true Mancunian style, it’s a party from start to finish, with live music and entertainment zones at every turn.

Centre visitor Lindsey, a self-confessed ‘non-runner’, will be running the 10k this year to raise funds for Maggie's Oldham. And she is calling on others to get their running shoes on for people with cancer and their families. “I can’t imagine Maggie’s not being here. It’s been there for me, and I want it to be there for others too. That’s why the fundraising is so important.”

Lindsey was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2023, which was quickly followed by a mastectomy in April, chemotherapy in June and radiotherapy in November. She's currently back in work part-time as a HR assistant and is training for the big day with couch to 5k and regular walks with her cockapoo, Buster.

Maggie’s offers free support to anyone with cancer, as well as their families and friends, who walk through the doors. The centres sit alongside NHS hospitals and Maggie’s can also support you online. The majority of Maggie’s funding is from voluntary donations.
